Parasailing in Corfu: What It Really Feels Like

Is It Safe, and Why It’s One of the Island’s Must-Do Experiences

If you’ve ever walked along the coastline in Corfu and looked up to see someone quietly floating above the sea, you’ve probably had the same thought most people do:

“What does that actually feel like?”

Parasailing looks dramatic from the beach, but the reality surprises almost everyone who tries it. It’s not loud, not rushed, and not what most people expect. In fact, for many guests, it becomes one of the most peaceful and memorable moments of their entire holiday.

At Corfu Ski Club Watersports, we’ve been welcoming guests since 1974, and parasailing has become one of those experiences that people come back to talk about year after year.

Here’s everything you need to know before you try it.

What Is Parasailing?

Parasailing is a watersport where you are gently lifted into the air while attached to a specially designed parachute, which is towed by a paracraft boat.

As the boat moves forward, the parachute fills with air and lifts you smoothly above the water up to 100meters in the air. There is no jumping required and no special experience needed.

You simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

It’s one of the easiest watersports to try in Corfu, which is why it’s so popular with couples, families, and first-timers.

What Parasailing in Corfu Actually Feels Like

Most people expect adrenaline. What they don’t expect is calm.

The moment you leave the boat, everything changes. The sound of the engine fades, the sea gets quieter, and suddenly you’re floating above one of the most beautiful coastlines in Greece.

From above, Corfu looks completely different.

You’ll see:

  • The deep blue and turquoise tones of the Ionian Sea
  • Hidden bays and quiet stretches of Corfu coastline
  • The green hills rolling down toward the water
  • Mount Pandokratoras and other surrounding mountains
  • The Albanian coastline and mainland Greece
  • Breathtaking views of the. Old and New Fortress in Corfu Town
  • Corfu Town

It’s one of the few experiences where people go quiet without realising it. Not because it’s intense, but because it’s peaceful in a way you don’t expect from a watersport.

And then there’s that moment where you realise how high you are… and how calm you feel at the same time.

That’s usually when the smiles start.

Is Parasailing Safe?

This is one of the most common questions we get, especially from first-time guests.

When done properly, parasailing is a very safe activity.

At Corfu Ski Club Watersports, safety always comes first. Every flight depends on weather conditions, wind levels, and sea state. If conditions aren’t right, we don’t go out.

Our equipment is regularly maintained, and every guest receives a clear safety briefing before take-off.

You don’t need any experience, and you don’t need to be strong or athletic. The boat and our experienced team do all the work, you simply enjoy the experience.

Who Can Go Parasailing?

One of the best things about parasailing is how inclusive it is.

It’s suitable for:

  • Couples looking for a shared experience
  • Families with older children
  • Solo travellers
  • First-time watersports guests

You don’t need to “train” or prepare. If you can sit comfortably and enjoy the view, you can parasail.

It’s often chosen by people who don’t usually do adrenaline activities, simply because it feels more like floating than flying.

What You’ll See From the Air

Corfu is already beautiful from the ground, but from above it feels completely different.

Depending on conditions, you may see:

  • Daphnila Bay and the surrounding coastline
  • Corfu Town including the New and Old Fortress
  • The North East Coastline
  • Albanian and Greek Mainland
  • The lush green landscapes that make Corfu so unique
  • Boats and yachts moving quietly below you
  • The horizon stretching endlessly into the Ionian Sea

On particularly clear days, the view toward Albania is unforgettable. It gives you a sense of just how special this part of the Mediterranean really is.

When Is the Best Time to Try Parasailing in Corfu?

Parasailing is usually best on calm, in the morning hours when the sea is smooth and visibility is high.

Morning sessions until about 2pm often offer the most comfortable conditions, especially during peak summer months.

That said, every day is different, which is why local experience matters. Being based on the water in Corfu for over 50 years means we know when conditions are right — and when it’s better to wait.

What Should You Bring?

You don’t need much.

Most guests simply bring:

  • Swimwear
  • Sunscreen
  • A towel
  • A sense of curiosity (this one helps most)

Everything else is taken care of for you.

Why Parasailing Stays With People Long After Their Holiday

Some activities are fun in the moment. Parasailing tends to become a memory.

It’s often the experience people describe later as:

  • “The most peaceful 10 minutes of my holiday”
  • “The most incredible views”
  • “the best view I had in Corfu”
  • “something I would do again in a heartbeat”

There’s something about seeing the island from above, away from everything else, that stays with you.

It’s not about speed or skill. It’s about perspective.
